Reading Right Now: December 2022

Novels and Time Management Books Right Brain Loves Left

I recently discovered that there are books that cater exclusively to the holidays - especially romances. I had no idea publishing ran the same type of content as the television season during the holidays. How’d did I miss that?! Either way, I’ve not yet dug into that genre, but maybe next year I will. Have you? I’d love to know.

Here are the books I’m tackling this month. Two are from the library, and one I bought outright.

1) Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I discovered the author this year after reading Daisy Jones & the Six. Wow, did I love that one! I then purchased The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on Audible (listening to it during my walks) and read her short story, The End of the Affair. I debated what book of hers I should start next, and Carrie Soto is Back was on the library’s front area display - so, easy decision. I’m loving it so far, especially learning about tennis. Earlier this year, I read a biography by  Olympian runner Alexi Pappas, and her dedication to her sport and mental health was inspiring. The fictional protagonist in this book, Carrie Soto, is a tennis star. She is ruthless and obsessive, and against all odds, I’m rooting for her. Ms. Reid has such an easy way with storytelling. Her books may not be easy to write, but she makes the reading effortless. What a gift!

2) Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. I’m reading this one after Carrie Soto is Back. Take My Hand was on several best-of-the-year lists, and while the subject matter is not usually what I read, it was intriguing. I’m game for reading something new! I can’t wait to dig into this much-lauded book.

3) The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. A mentor told me she once asked an entrepreneur friend how she got so much done. Her friend recommended this book as a must-read. Time management strategies? I’m always looking for more ideas to incorporate, so this went on the month’s reading pile.

I’d love to hear what you’re reading, as I always look for recommendations. Chat soon, dear Readers!
